How Do You Enjoy Your Italian Wine?

Inserito Friday 21 March 2008

So, how do you? With friends? On your own? With a loved one after a hard day’s work? Indoors? Outdoors? After the children have gone to bed?

Everyone has their ideal setting for enjoying a glass (or three!) of some nice Italian wine.

1) Good Company:

Now, the worst thing you want is to share your favourite Italian wine with people whose company you really don’t enjoy. Get rid of them first before you settle into your piece of nectar heaven! Better yet, surround yourself with friends who appreciate you AND the wine. It really does enhance the taste!

2) Good Food:

Great company, great wine and great food. What more could you want? Maybe some tiramisu for dessert and cheese to nibble on for afters!

3) Not Starving, Thirsty or Angry:

Italian wine is to be respected. Every moment should be savoured, from its colour when it hits the light, to its taste, to the wine glass you choose to drink it from.

Therefore, if you can help it, avoid drinking it when you’re really hungry, thirsty or angry as it robs you of the experience to enjoy it in its entirety.

4) Feeling Healthy:

When you’re sick, like if you have a cold, a blocked nose or a sore throat, you can’t really taste anything, so there’s really little point in even having one drop of wine. Save it for when your body’s feeling stronger and, more importantly, when your tongue can remember its purpose!

5) The Right Temperature:

You probably know that wine can be quite fickle when it comes to the temperature at which it’s served. Just as cheese tastes different at room temperature than it does straight out of the fridge, so does wine. Drink it at the right temperature and you’ll be smiling like a Cheshire cat in-between sips!
