Calabria Wines
Calabria is a region situated in the southern zone of Italy with a less number of population. It is bordering the region of Basilicata in the north, and rest of the sides are rounded way covered by Tyrrhenian sea and Ionian sea. Due to the close proximity to the sea coast the climate of this region is called geographically mesoclimate. The soil of the average area is volcanic and rocky though due to black volcanic soil it is fertile.Usual of Italy the wines are produced from the province bears the name of that place as a brand. Here both red and white grapes are produced. In the red varieties, Greco Nero, Nerello Cappucio, Maggliappo, Gaglioppo, Canino, Nerello Mascalese and the world famous grape variety of Sangioviese is also produced here. In the white category Gurnaccia, Trebbiano, Moscato, Toscano, Greco Bianco, Malvasia, Montonico, and Bianco are the main types.
Calabria is a rocky place and it is near to sea. That is why there is a vast difference in the climate of this place. The wind variations are caused by the bordering seas and created variation in thermal conditions. Coastal areas are windy and inland areas are hot in summer and chilled in wintry season. This region has a tendency to raining both in summer and winter.
The whole region is divided into four main wine making regions. More or less eight famous wines are produced from here among which all are of DOC category. The most famous DOC wine of Calabria is Ciro, originated from the grape Gaglioppo. It is the specialty of this region and nowhere else in Italy this variety of grapes are available. It an age old famous wine from Calabria. These grapes are manually harvested and the making of this wine is a secret as maintained by the wineries of this region.
The taste of Italian white wine primarily depends on the different variety of grapes used and the storing time required for the optimum maturity in taste and flavor.
Nowadays sparkling wine is being considered the most cost affordable variety of Italian wine and readily available which reveals its technical feature that is light or little-sparkling.
