Campania Wines

Campania region is situated in the southern zone of Italy. It is bordering with Latium and Molise in the north, Tyhhrenean Sea in the south, Basilicata in the east side. The climate of this place is quite temperate rather soothing due to its near proximity to the sea. The soil of valleys is fertile in nature and in some cases made of Volcanic Tuffa soil.

Grapes produced in this place are of two categories one is producing red wine and the second type generates white wine. The red grapes include Aglianico, Alcatico, Piedirosso, Sciascinoso types producing quality red wines. The white grapes include Biancolella, Coda De Volpe, Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Malvasia, Trebbiano, Verdeco producing exclusive quality white wine.

The most popular wine of Campania is the wine Taurasi, a DOC-DOCG quality wine, better known as the "southern Barlolo". It is very potential a wine in perspective of aging. It is made out of Aglianico of 85%, and including any one of Barbera, Sangiovese, and Piedirosso type of grapes. Taurasi need minimum three years of aging in oaky casket for full fledged maturity and Riserva needs minimum four years aging out of which minimum 18 months in woody container.

Falerno del Massico is a new introduce of Campania, which is an attempt to refrain the 3500 old taste of Roman wine Falernian wine .It is an expert mixture of Aglianco, Primitivo, Piedirosso kind of grape.

Apart from the famous red wines Campania produces some good white wines such as Fiano da Avellino of DOC category, Falanghina, and Greco di Tufo, of DOC category. Another famous DOC category of wine is Lacryma Cristi dol Vesuvio made from a perfect blending of red and white grape that is Sciasinolo, Aglianico, and Piedirosso and white grapes like Verdeca, Greco, Falanghina, and Coda di Volpe.

Capri Bianco and Capri Rosso are two DOC wines produced from the Island of Cpri hence it I named after the island following the Italian convention.
