The word piedmont means at the foot of hill that exactly signifies its geographical location. Piemonte is mainly a winter dominated place and due to its geographical proximity with France and Germany it is influenced by the culture of both these countries and wine produces from this region is heavily exported in these two countries. This region is mainly famous for the red wine like regal Barolo and the wine of Barbaresco. This variety of red wine is originated from the grapes of Nebbiolo.Besides Barbaresco, Barolo, and Gattinara, all DOC-DOCG wines are originated from Nebbiolo. The wine Barbera is considered as the most famous vine for red wine and Dolcetto is appreciated for its soft, flavored winey taste. Apart from these Freisa, Grignolino, Brachetto and a lot of other varieties are noteworthy produce of this famous wine region. But the best variety of this region is the white wine name Asti Spumante that is sweet, and bubbly in nature. It is world wide famous wine and rated as DOC-DOCG in the produced wine category.
White wine produced in the province has been named after the name of the province and it is a world famous brand. The wine lovers usually prefer to call this variety an Italian gem however it is not available all throughout the year and the supplied quantity is not sufficient enough to meet the demand as is produced in a very limited quantity and it sells just like a hot cake in the American and European markets. This is rare a type due to its adaptability in food combination and the limited grace of taste. Robert Parker, the well-known wine sampler has called this wine as the favorite white wine of Piedmont.
