Apulia also known as Puglia is located at the southern region of Italy. It is bordering with Molise in the north, Ionian sea in the south, the region of Campania and Basilicata are located at the western side and Adriatic sea is located at the east part of this region. This place has a typical tendency to have rain in the winter and climate is moderate in the northern portion. It is quite hot climate in southern part. The soil of this area is mostly rocky and hilly.Both red and white qualities of grapes are produced here. In the red variety Bombino Nero, Malvasia Nero, Negroamaro, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Aleatico are the main varieties. In the white categories Bombino Bianco, Malvasia Bianca, Trebbiano, Verdeca, and Bianco d’Alessano are the most favorite brand of wine makers.Wine making though not in great quantity like Umbria, Sicily, or Tuscany, is an age old artistry of this region. Almost 82% grapes of this region are of red quality and wine is produced in this area since 200B.C.This place is one of the main wine regions of the country known for its exquisite quality. The whole wine producing regions are divided into two major parts. The northern region, enjoying a temperate climate and the southern region of peninsula gets fresh sea breeze from the coast of Ionian sea and Adriatic sea. The wines produced from this region are of DOC category and mainly red wines. Among the wide variety Salice Salentino, San Severo, Primitivo di Manduria, Castel del Monte is world famous .
A few white wines are also produced from this place which includes Locorotondo, Martina, and Castel del Monte Bianco ;all wines are of DOC quality.
The wine making process of this area though has undergone a sea change, with the introduction of technology. But still in some places the wine makers of this place maintain the old style, especially in fermentation process that is probably the secret of the success of the produced wine.
The taste of Italian white wine primarily depends on the different variety of grapes used and the storing time required for the optimum maturity in taste and flavor.
Nowadays sparkling wine is being considered the most cost affordable variety of Italian wine and readily available which reveals its technical feature that is light or little-sparkling.
