Sicilia Wines

This region is situated at the southern part of Italy and it is bordering Tyhhrenian Sea at the north end, The Mediterranean sea at the southwest part and the Ionian sea at the south eastern part of this place. The climate of this place is mainly warm, dominatingly windy because of the nearness to the seacoast and somehow it is similar to the climate of North part of Africa. The soil is rocky mostly and the vineyards of this region are consisting of more area than any other places of Italy. But mostly the grapes produced are of DOC variety and that is why almost all produced wines are of DOC variety.

The famous red varieties of grapes harvested in Italy are Perricone, and the most famous Nero d'Avola. The white grape variety includes Inzolia, Malvasia, Catarratto, and Zibibbo. the wines produced from theses grapes are Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola and the famous white wines are Verdello, Cataratto Bianco, Damaschino, Inzolia, and Grecianico.

There is a common tendency between the Sicilians are the strong dislike for the DOC variety. That is why the regional government body has standardized its own parameter of quality and denotation by a q symbol on the label displays the standard of the wine and its legitimacy to get sold. The popular DOC category includes the brands like Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Moscato di Pantelleria, Malvasia delle Lipari, and Etna.

Marsala is a famous brand of wine that is Port styled and available in both the tastes of dry and sweet. It is not a pure and single extract of a particular grape, but also a meticulous calculation of different proportion of different kinds of grapes. Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia, are the grape varieties ,maker of famous wine Marsala. Three varieties of Marsala are available in Sicily that is ambra (amber), oro (golden), rubino (ruby); Based on taste it is of three qualities like secco (dry),containing sugar at4%, sweet (dolce)containing more than 10% sugar, semisecco (semidry) with4-10% sugar.
