Trentino - Alto Adige Wines

This region is located in the Northeastern part of Italy and it is bordering with Austria in the northern part, The region of Lombardy in the west side, Lake Garda of Veneto in the east side and Switzerland in the Northwest side. The average climate of this region is predominantly cold but the areas attached to Lake Garda are a little mild in climate. According to the geological terminology, the soil of this place is Gravelly and Alluvial soil. In the red grapes production the place can get a three star performance. In the popular varieties Malvasia, Lagrei, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Nero, Merlot, Teroldego, Cabernet Sauvignon, Schiava Gentile, and Marzemino are of much importance. In the white category Veltner, Riesling Italica, Pinot Bianco, Muller-Thrugau, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Pinot Grigio, Riesling Renano are the to be mentioned.

This region is divided into two major sub-division, one is Trentino and the second one is Alto-Adige. The sub region of Alto-Adige is located on the northern part of this region .Adige is the name of second large river of Italy coming down from Austria attaches Alps mountain range. Previously it was a Germany dominant place and till date it is much influenced by German culture and tradition. This German influence is evident in the wine bottling and label style.

The southern part of this region is named as Trentino and it is predominantly enjoying an Italian cultural influence. A few brands of red wines are being produced from this place but it is mainly famous as the producing zone for white wines. In the red wine category Teroldego is main product and in the product list of white wine Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio are main items and mention worthy. Most of the produced wines from this territory are of DOC quality.

Recently the wineries of this place have taken a new venture to produce white wine following the old orthodox method to regain the old glory and taste of the wine.
