Tuscany Wines
This is the largest wine producing region of Italy. It is bordering with Emilia Romagna in the north side, Liguria in the north western side, Umbria and Lazio is in the south side and Marche is situated at the east side of the region. In the western side of this region Tyrrhenian Sea is located. The soil of this region is rugged and alluvial typed. Climate of this region has a wide range that is varying from mountainous range to sea climate especially for the areas adjacent to the Tyrrhenian Sea.In the red category the major grape is Sangiovese. And in the list of white grapes Vernaccia., Chardonnay, Trebianno, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon are the main varieties. The wine of Brunello di Montalcino is made of the grape Sangiovese and the local name of this grape is Brunello. Aging of this grape is a prime factor for the maturity of the wine at least it should be aged for two years in oaky casket and one year after bottling. Riserva status wine needs the aging for minimum five years before it is ready for marketing.
Another blend of Sangiovese grape is the famous wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. It is generated from the grapes specially grown on the slope of Tuscany. It requires minimum two years aging time and it is mandatory to be aged in a woody casket. Riserva is another wine requires three years of aging in a woody bowl.
As this region is the main frame of wine making of Italy there is extensive research activities are going on here for the development of new good quality of wine. Since last three years the innovation of super Tuscan wine has made a new era in wine industry. The Sangiovese variety with the blending of Sangioveto, Brunello, and Prugnolo Gentile variety of grapes has created several DOC-DOCG wine among which Brunello di Montalcino, Carmignano, Chianti Classico, Morellino di Scansano, Chianti DOC-DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOC-DOCG are the stars of wine industry.
The taste of Italian white wine primarily depends on the different variety of grapes used and the storing time required for the optimum maturity in taste and flavor.
