Umbria is bordering with Tuscany in the north, and western side. The region Marche is in the eastern side and Lazio is located at the southern side of this place. This region is centered in the in Italy thus maintain a very well communicated transport network. The climate of this area is very much temperate. The soil is of rocky and it is hill dominating area.The word Umbria is originated from the Italian word "ombra" that means shadow. In fact all the vine yards of this region are under hilly shadow. Both red and white grapes are harvested in this place and the process of harvesting is the age old manual harvesting. Following the organic product norms no chemical fertilizer or pesticides are used in these vine yards so that the taste of the grape could not be hampered or tampered by the harmful effect of the chemicals..
Including the red grape category Sangiovese, Sagrantino, and Ciliegiolo varietis are main and deserve mention. In the list of white grapes Drupeggio, Malvasia, Verdello, Trebbiano, and Grechetto are famous for their exclusive taste and wine producing quality.
Wine and producing of wine has become attuned with the inherent culture of Umbria. Even the production of wine goes back to the Roman age at per the regional history. There are two red DOC-DOCG wine produced from this region. The names of these two wines are Sagrantino di Montefalco, and Torgiano Rosso Riserva. The wine Sagrantino di Montefalco is produced from Sagrantino grapes only. Torgiano Rosso Riserva is the another DOC-DOCG red wine originated from Songiovese-Caniolo Nero with a blending of Montepulciano grapes. The white wine Orvieto, produced from this place is generated from the grape of Malvasia and Trebbiano varieties and it is famous world wide for it s exquisite quality.
The taste of Italian white wine primarily depends on the different variety of grapes used and the storing time required for the optimum maturity in taste and flavor.
